The Dark Night highlight ends in six slides. One is still a poem. Five are the September revelations, written the day the model broke — driving back from Chiriquí, a car full of moving stuff, the homestead future named as the attachment and released. They are not dark-night weather. They are windows into Unity: truth as it arrived, before I had a curriculum for it.

Read them slowly. Each one is a whole teaching. The full readings live on the sequence page; this page is the walk through them as one layer.

1. Sail away — the arguing stops

Let’s go sail away. No destination in mind. Feel the flow, wu wei.

July, still on the water, two months before the opening. No destination, because the destination — the planned life, the homestead future — was the attachment. Wu wei is not passivity. It is what is left when arguing stops having seniority. Every practice before this poem was secretly sailing instruction. Let’s go sail away · the poem

2. The forehead opens

Prying open my third eye. I see all the things it was said that I could. I literally feel an opening, like a gentle aching stretch in the middle of my forehead.

The verb is honest. It was not serene and it was not a technique. I felt an opening in the middle of my forehead, physical enough that no interpretation was required. Other people’s words had arrived first — it was said that I could — and the body confirmed them only after the future I had been living inside was let go. Nothing was pried open by force of wanting. A model fell apart when its load-bearing attachment was released, and perception moved into the space that future had been occupying. Prying open my third eye · the post

3. One with anything you focus on

As I feel my third eye stretching open, I feel a sense of unity with all and anything I focus on. I see clearly into areas of my mind previously hidden.

This one is literal. The model pre-cuts every experience — me here, thing there — before you look. With the model down, that cut is gone. Whatever my attention rested on, the separation between me and it was not there. Not believed away. Not there. The same oneness people describe when taking mushrooms, or certain other psychedelics. Hidden rooms of my own mind became visible because the map was no longer standing between me and the house.

I also wrote that I could see into other people’s minds and nervous systems, and that I perceived an aura. What became visible was structure, not a transcript of their thoughts: anger on the surface, shame under it, a history under the shame, a worldview grown over the history, and a nervous system braced or flooded or reaching. That is my report of the opening. It is not a laboratory result — where this meets science. The tears and the waves of energy were not a side effect. They were how the insight arrived. Unity, structure, energy, tears — one event. As I feel my third eye stretching open · the post

The poems had already said pieces of it. At one with all creation is the non-dual sentence the sequence keeps circling. Islands far apart keeps the honesty: the islands stay islands. Connection is a living thing crossing, not everyone dissolved into soup.

4. The river, and who is looking

I cannot unsee what I’ve seen. I cannot forget the river of power that is reality. There is no going back.

The river is the present. Not a picture of it, not words for it: it itself, moving, before any model is built over it. For most of a life the model is experienced as reality, and the person inside it is experienced as the story. On that drive I recognized what had been standing in between. I am not the model. I am that which is experiencing reality. The words and futures still get used. They are never again confused with what they are about, or with who is using them. A knowing of this kind does not reverse into unknowing. I cannot unsee what I’ve seen · the post · When it hurts

5. Shoulds and hopes are fictions

Past and future are not subjectively real. Every should is a fiction. Every hope is a fiction. Do not attach to anything not real.

I exist in the present. The past is memory. The future is a story. A should has never been met in the wild, and a life can still be organized around obeying them — mine had been. The homestead future was a should with land and years inside it. The present is a sink full of dirty dishes, and at most a feeling about it. It is not a state of “should do the dishes,” and it is not a hope that the sink will be empty later. Those live as words and images. The dishes, the water, the hands, the feeling: those are here. Do not attach to anything not real is inventory, not a mood. Past and future are not subjectively real · the post

6. Nothing is pure, because nothing is separate

There is nothing pure in reality. Everything casts a shadow. There is yin in your yang, and yang in your yin. There is love in your hate and hate in your love. Look for your shadow in the shadow of each thing.

There is a seed of the opposite in each thing, the way the symbol shows. Love contains hate. An apology already contains the resentment it grew from. At the level below where words cut pairs, the opposites were never two substances. They are one reality, named from two sides. Apology and resentment are not sealed rooms. Apologizer and apologizee are not sealed people. We are mutual participants in experiencing reality, and the roles move through the same field. To see only one pole is to let a word do a division reality does not do.

The last line is the core technique of this whole guide. Do not face the shadow as one enormous darkness. Break it down into the shadow of each thing: each word, each story. What does this word carry that I have not looked at? What does this story keep off the page? Word by word, the beast behind one door becomes specific and seeable. Nothing is pure because nothing is separate, and the way through is the shadow of each thing. There is nothing pure in reality · the post · Integration

Union, then a boundary

I have said this out loud since. Awakening the feminine, as I use the word, is mastery of union: you can feel that you are one with anything you put your attention on. You usually find that from inside loneliness — separate, exploring the separate, and discovering you are not alone. Awakening the masculine is mastery of separation, and it cannot come first. If you cannot connect, you cannot learn to disconnect. Opening leaves you able to take things in, so discernment follows: what you let into yourself, what you keep out. Effortless connection and effortless boundaries are one movement. The islands stay islands. Somebody still flies across.

The same unity makes a certain kind of question dissolve. Is this intuition or a message? An angel or you? A neighbor or the bird or God? If we are one, “where did this come from” stops being a useful cut. That is how I said it in faith and surrender, and in divine union and why the feminine awakes first.

One small practice

Put your attention on one ordinary thing that is actually here — a cup, a tree, a face, the sink. Notice the sentence that arrives first: me, and it. You do not have to force the cut to vanish. See that the cut is a word. Stay with color, weight, sound, the fact of the thing, for one quiet minute. If the day also needs a boundary, name one thing you will not take in before night. Union and separation, both, sized to today.
